BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Tuskegee University volleyball team fell in the conference tournament to Albany State 3-0 (25-14,25-19,25-19) at the SIAC Volleyball Championships, ending the season at 18-13.
Under first-year head coach
Melissa Robinson, the Tigerettes finished with the most wins since prior to 1997 and improved on their 13-win season a year ago. The Tigerettes also had two players named to the SIAC All-Conference team -
Pamela Allen (first team) and Jamiah-Breda Nixon (second team) - as well as the co-Player of the Year in Allen.
The Tigerettes do not have a senior on the roster, on a team that finished third in the West Division (and seeded second from the West in the tournament).
In the afternoon match on Friday, the second of the day for the Tigerettes, Breda-Nixon led the way with 10 kills. She finished the afternoon hitting .345 on 23 total attempts wih no errors. Allen finished with nine kills, while hitting .217 and
Donovan Wingfield added seven in the loss.
Morgan Scrivens finished with 30 assists, and
Zahria Radford finished with 19 digs.
Janae Graham, the nation's leader in service aces and service aces per set, finshed with one ace.
Kristen Randolph led Albany State with 12 kills, while Justice Howard added 10. Tiffany Roesler finished with a match-high 32 assists and Kaliah Carter a match-high 27 digs.
