Tuskegee Closes out Regular Season with Victory over Albany State

With the win, the Tigerettes lock up the second seed from the East Division for the tournament

TUSKEGEE, Ala. | Heading into their regular season finale, the Tuskegee University Tigerettes knew one thing – win and have the second seed from the West Division heading into the SIAC Tournament next week.

The only problem, Albany State – one of the best in the East and a team that Tuskegee has struggled against in its history – stood in the way at Chappie James Arena.

However, an intense crowd and defensive play help to carry Tuskegee to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21,25-21) victory over the Lady Rams Thursday night to close out the regular season.

Tuskegee (17-11, 13-6 SIAC) held Albany State to a .145 hitting percentage (32-20-83) and recorded 28 digs and eight blocks en route to the win. Defensively, the Tigerettes had three players with four or more digs led by Janae Graham with 10 – playing in the libero position for the night. Morgan Scrivens added eight and Zahria Radford four in the win.

Pamela Allen led the way offensively, and defensively, for the Tigerettes on Thursday night. The junior finished the night hitting .280 with 13 kills, while recorded a pair of digs, three block solos and two block assists. Meanwhile, Jamiah Breda-Nixon and Donovan Wingfield added five kills each.

Scrivens added 22 assists in the win, while Graham – the nation's leader in service aces and service aces per set – added five more to her total heading into the tournament. She now stands at 71 for the season.

The Tigerettes will find out their opponent for the conference tournament when the bracket is released later this week.
