MOBILE, Ala. | Janae Graham continued to push for the nation's lead in service aces, recording nine in Tuskegee's 3-0 (25-10,25-18,25-21) victory over Central State in the SIAC West Cluster held on the campus of Spring Hill College Saturday morning.
Pamela Allen finished with nine kills, while
Donovan Wingfield added eight in the win.
Jacqueline Wilson and
Jamiah Breda-Nixon each six kills in the match, while
Morgan Scrivens added 23 assists. Defensively,
Angelique Watson led Tuskegee (12-10, 10-7 SIAC) with seven digs.
Tuskegee jumped out to an early 8-0 lead to start the opening set against Central State off the strength of five service aces from one of the nation's leaders, Graham. They were able to extend the lead to 16 points, at 22-6, off of another pair of aces from Graham before closing out the opening set 25-10.
In the second set, the Tigerettes jumped ahead 5-0 on a pair of kills from Wilson and Scrivens, before pushing the lead to as many as seven. Central State came back and trimmed the lead down to two, 18-16, before Tuskegee went on a 5-2 run using a kill from Wingfield and an ace from Breda-Nixon before closing out the second set 25-18.
The Tigerettes put the match away in the third set after trailing 19-17 midway through the final set. Tuskegee tied the set up at 19-all following an ace by Allen, and took the lead for good when Wilson recorded a kill to make the score 21-20. The lead was pushed to 24-20 following a pair of kills from Wingfield and a service ace from Breda-Nixon.
The Tigerettes face LeMoyne-Owen this morning in the final match of the SIAC Cluster.
