WINSTON-SALEM, N. C. – The Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University dropped a tough one on the road to the Rams of Winston-Salem State University, 24-13.
The first half saw an evenly matched contest between the Golden Tigers and Rams as they entered the locker rooms at halftime 10-10.
Winston Salem scored the first points of the contest on a 24-yard run by Mustafa Greene, sealing a nine play 78-yard drive. Tuskegee's Lacey connected with
Travis Hawkins on an 80-yard pass early in the second quarter to tie the score at seven. (
Trevor Wylie's point after was good.)
The Rams responded with a 29-yard field goal to go up by three at the 7:31 mark. Undeterred the Golden Tigers' Wylie placed a 48-yarder between the uprights to tie the game with 1:52 remaining in the half.
The third quarter saw Winston-Salem score on a two-yard dash to increase their lead by seven. With 45 seconds remaining in the quarter (3
rd) Wylie scored again on a 29-yard field goal.
The Rams ended all scoring at the 13:34 point of the fourth on a three-yard run, to bring the score to 24-13.
Kevin Lacey completed 10-of-24 passes for 212 yards, one touchdown and one interception; while
Justin Nared went 3-6 for 14 yards.
Hoderick Lowe rushed for 42 yards on 12 carries. Lacey rushed for 41 yards on six carries to lead the running game for the Golden Tigers.
Larry Cobb picked up 99 yards on four receptions and
Travis Hawkins landed two catches for 93 yards.
Defensively,
Jawell Ratliff paced Tuskegee with 10 tackles (8 solo, 2 assists);
Tyrin Thurmon added six total tackles, all which were solo.
El' Malik Chinn,
Brandon Griffin and
Andre Revere all added six tackles, five solo and one assist respectfully.
The Golden Tigers return home next week to host Lane College in a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
