Tuskegee – The Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University dominated in their conference season opener against the Lane College Dragons, 44-3. In the 20-year history of this series, TU is undefeated (20-0).
Tuskegee extinguished the Dragons' flame within a minute of the opening kick-off, when
Hoderick Lowe scored on a 64-yard run.
Trevor Wylie nailed the PAT to put Tuskegee up 7-0.
With four minutes remaining in the first, Wylie split the uprights for a 25-yard field goal. In the second quarter,
Michael J. Thornton rushed into the end zone from five yard out to put the Golden Tigers up 16-0. Wylie's point after attempt went wide right. With six minutes remaining in the half
Justin Nared found
Tyree Brooks on a blistering 29-yard pass, Wylie landed the PAT. With a 23-0 lead, Tuskegee was far from finish,
Jawell Ratliff intercepted Roderick McKee's pass on Lane's very next offensive drive. Lowe rushed for 15-yards to score for the Golden Tigers. (Wylie's point after was good.)
The Dragons only points of the contest came 29 seconds before the end of the first half, Carlas Moore, Jr., scored three on a field goal. TU led 30-3 going into halftime.
The Golden Tigers scored twice in the third to conclude scoring for the game.
Kevin Lacey hit Brooks from 35-yards out for a trip to the end zone (Wylie's kick was good) and Nared scored on a one-yard quarterback keeper.
Nared completed 8-of-9 passes for 134 yards, one touchdown while
Kevin Lacey went 5-9 for 107 yards and one touchdown.
Hoderick Lowe rushed for 132 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns. Lacey rushed for 41 yards on five carries to lead the running game for the Golden Tigers.
Tyree Brooks picked up 87 yards on three receptions and two touchdowns;
Leo Gilbert landed one catch for 38 yards.
Defensively,
El' Malik Chinn paced Tuskegee with 13 tackles (9 solo, 4 assists);
Darian Hall added five total tackles, one solo and four assists.
The Golden Tigers will host Fort Valley State University at home next week in a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
