BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 7, 2014) – After six minutes of play, the Tigerettes trailed Benedict 6-4 in a low scoring start for each team. Benedict extended their lead to double-figures, 22-12, with 6:41 remaining in the first half. The Tigerettes cut the Benedict lead to five points with about five minutes left on the clock. Benedict's height gave the Tigerettes problems with offensive rebounds.
The Tigerettes did not play with any type of consistency, but they only trailed 28-20 at intermission.
Kajuanna Rivers led the Tigerettes with six points, followed by
Jacqueline Martin with four points.
Alannah Vincent added two points and six rebounds.
Tuskegee (17-11) only connected on 8-of-36 field goal attempts (22 percent), while Benedict was 11-of-31 for 36 percent for the first half.
Benedict (17-11), playing with confidence, built a substantial margin and never looked back as they continued to outplay and maneuver the SIAC West champions. With 1:45 showing on the clock, the Tigerettes trailed the Lady Tigers 60-32.
The Tigerettes suffered their worst defeat of the year, a 64-36 tournament loss to the Benedict Lady Tigers. Without a player scoring in double figures, seniors Vincent and Rivers scored nine points apiece in their last game as collegiate basketball players. Vincent's 10 rebounds were a team high.
Latoya Fairly (15 points and 15 rebounds) and Britenique Harrison (10 points and 10 rebounds) posted double-doubles, to pace the Lady Tigers. Ashley Thompson added 14 points and Maya Nelson had 11 points.
The Lady Tigers of Benedict outshot the Tigerettes 35 percent to 21 percent.
