After leading by as many as 12 points in the opening half, a poor-shooting second half threatened Tuskegee's current winning streak on Saturday night. But, the Tigerettes (11-7; 7-2 in SIAC) managed to pick up their fourth straight victory against the Lady Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College (3-15; 3-6 in SIAC) by running away with the contest in a 69-57 victory. LeMoyne-Owen managed to take their only lead of the game at the 13:51 mark, but Tuskegee was involved in a 53-53 stalemate over the final 1:12 of regulation, before outscoring the visitors 16-4 in the extra session to win their first overtime game of the season.
Marie McAbee finished with a game-high 22 points, with half of those points coming after regulation. The senior was fouled five different times in the extra session, going 9-of-10 from the charity stripe in overtime. Teammate
Alannah Vincent picked up a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double, and
Kajuanna Rivers was the only other Tuskegee player to score in double-figures. She finished with 13 points and game highs of six assists and four steals.
Tenesha Wright was a rebound shy of a double-double in the losing cause, as she finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, but also had a game-high of nine turnovers. Teammate Latrice Sears finished the game with 15 points and eight rebounds, but ended up fouling out of the game late after playing 42 minutes. The Lady Magicians did not score on a field goal attempt until 54 seconds left in overtime, when Zantrell Brown's jumper cut the TU lead to an 11-point margin.
The Tigerettes return this weekend to the Daniel 'Chappie' James Center to play the second game in their current three-game home stand. TU will look to get their fifth consecutive win this Saturday by attempting to complete the regular season sweep over Stillman College. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
