TUSCALOOSA, AL. – The Tuskegee University Golden Tigers' football team disarmed the Tigers of Stillman College in the SIAC Western Division duel for the top spot.
Tuskegee improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in conference, with a 61-19 victory over the Tigers (Stillman). The Golden Tigers scored on their first four possessions, with the first two being on the shoulders of
Hoderick Lowe. Lowe rushed into the end zone from four and three yards out, respectively. Also in the first,
Travis Hawkins caught a 27-yard pass from
Kevin Lacey for a Tuskegee touchdown.
Stillman scored with 1:10 remaining in the first quarter,
Asim Manuel blocked the point after.
Hoderick Lowe rushed in from 17-yards out to score for the Golden Tigers. Stillman's Josh Straughan completed a 16-yard pass to Gilmore for the SC Tigers' second score. Undeterred, Tuskegee's Lacey launched a 21-yard bomb to
Tahj Dent for an end zone trip.
Marquiste Mason returned an interception for 72-yards for the first pick six of the game.
The second half scoring began scoring on a 10-yard quarterback keeper by Stillman's Straughan.
Trevor Wylie tacked on a 45-yard field goal, to end scoring in the third.
Tyree Brooks completed a four-yard dash to score with 4:47 remaining in the contest. With 3:55 remaining, Manuel returned the second pick six for 22-yards. Scoring ended with 3:43 remaining, when Stillman gave up a safety on the kick-off.
In the final 15 minutes of the contest, Tuskegee found the end zone once again on a 33-yard run by RB
Jamarion Robinson; Wylie's point after was once again on target.
Lacey finished 9-15-1 for 188 yards and two touchdowns passes, while
Justin Nared went 4-7-1 for 24 yards.
Marquel Gardner tallied 71-yards on four receptions. Brooks rushed for 81-yards on 11 carries, while Lowe accumulated 64–yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns.
Defensively,
Osband Thompson led the Golden Tigers with nine total tackles, five solo and four assists.
Darian Hall and
El'Malik Chinn both finished with eight tackles; Hall had four solo and four assists and two assists for a loss of nine yards, 3.0 tackles for a loss of 21-yards; while Chinn had three solo and five assists.
Julian Morgan exploded with four solo and three assists for a total of seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss of 12-yards and 4.0 sacks for a loss of 18. Wylie was 8-8 for point afters.
Tuskegee will return home to host Kentucky State University for Homecoming 2014 on October 25, 2014. Kick-off is set for 1:00 pm.
