Golden Tigers Annihilate the Maroon Tigers in 79th Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic

Shut-out in Columbus, Georgia

COLUMBUS, GA. – The Tuskegee University Golden Tigers' football team dismantled the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College in the 79th Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic.

With a final of 49-0, it is almost hard to imagine a scoreless first quarter but no points were put on the board in the opening quarter. Tyrin Thurmon's interception one minute into the ball game set the tone early for Tuskegee.

The second quarter saw RB Michael J. Thornton barreling into the end zone twice. With 13:43 remaining in the half, Thornton rushed in from one yard out and again at the 9:46 mark for 23-yards.  A 65-yard bomb to WR Desmond Reece placed the Golden Tigers in the end zone for the last time in the half. Trevor Wylie's golden foot nailed all three PATs to increase the Tuskegee, Morehouse halftime margin to 21-0.

In the third, RB Hoderick Lowe returned the kickoff for 92-yards to begin second half scoring, Wylie's kick was good. QB Kevin Lacey found WR Larry Cobb on a 38-yard strike, while Wylie's kick sailed effortlessly through the uprights, taking the Golden Tigers to a 35-0 score. With a little over three minutes remaining in the quarter, QB Justin Nared scored on a one-yard quarterback keeper. Wylie once again added the point after.

In the final 15 minutes of the contest, Tuskegee found the end zone once again on a 33-yard run by RB Jamarion Robinson; Wylie's point after was once again on target.
Justin Nared completed 5-7 for 102-yards, while Kevin Lacey went 4-8-1 on the night for 95-yards. WR Marquel Gardner tallied 131-yards on five receptions while Michael J. Thornton rushed for 70-yards on eight carries and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Osband Thompson led the Golden Tigers with 11 total tackles, 6 solo and five assists. Jewell Ratliff and El'Malik Chinn both finished with six tackles; Thompson had two solo and four assists, while Chinn had one solo and five assists. DL Julian Morgan exploded with three solo and two assists for a total of five tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss of 39-yards and 3.0 sacks for a loss of 39.

The Golden Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on October 18, 2014 to take on the Stillman College Tigers; kick-off is set for 1:00 pm. Stillman is coming off a 48-36 win over Benedict College.
