Throughout Tarsha Askew's first season as the coach for the Tuskegee Tigerettes, the team has been able to get through rough patches with the Senior leadership of Marie McAbee and Alannah Vincent.  The duo would have a strong presence once again, as they respectively picked up their fifth and fourth double-doubles of the season in a 63-59 win against in-state rival Stillman College, on the road in Tuscaloosa.  In a game that featured six different lead changes, the Tigerettes were able to overcome a sloppy first half shooting the ball by hitting 48 percent of their shots after halftime.

Askew praised her two most reliable players on the season, and talked about the spark that they brought during Monday night's win.

"Those two carried us on with their energy tonight," Askew said.  "I did give them accolades after the game for that - their effort."

McAbee had 18 points and ten rebounds, while Vincent finished the game with 15 points and ten boards.  Even though the game was a hard-fought affair, the victory gives Tuskegee a five-game lead over Stillman (and a three-game lead over second-place LeMoyne-Owen) in the SIAC West Division, with nine games remaining until the SIAC Basketball Tournament in Birmingham.  The win gives the Tigerettes a 3-1 record during their longest road trip of the season in conference play, while going 3-0 against teams in the SIAC West.

"It's just going to be tough to play in anybody's home gym, regardless of their record," Askew said.  "So, we're trying to get mentally prepared to play in other people's gyms.  We don't seem to have a problem here at Chappie James [Center].  But, going on the road is tough.  Thankfully, we learned from the Benedict game, and was able to pull this win out."

Neither team shot well from the floor, but Stillman had a 25-24 halftime lead over Tuskegee.  The Tigerettes then went on a 13-6 run during the opening 3:36 after halftime.  A three-pointer by Rachel Brownlee gave TU a 37-31 lead with 16:24 remaining.  Stillman fought back to lead by as many as five points, but Tuskegee took the lead for good when Natasha Williams banked in a jumper with just over eight minutes left.

Jamesha Watkins led three double-digit scorers for the home team, as she tied McAbee's game-high of 18 points.  Angel Mitchell had 17 points, and Samantha Thomas chipped in a dozen in the losing cause.  But, Kajuanna Rivers chipped in ten points for Tuskegee, and the Tigerettes won in spite of having more turnovers with fewer assists and rebounds as a team.

The women will try to improve their undefeated record at home to 6-0 Saturday night, when the Lady Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College arrive to mark the start of a three-game home stand.  Askew said that the team will have to have better continuity in order to run up the current winning streak to four games.

"We just gotta get more kids ready to contribute something," Askew said.  "The starters and a couple of kids gave great effort, but we are still lacking that from others.

Tuskegee and LeMoyne-Owen are set to play this Saturday, with the game scheduled for 1:00 p.m.  Thursday's doubleheader against Miles has been postponed due to the ongoing winter storm.
