A solid first half of defense by the Tuskegee women's basketball team gave way to open three-pointers and fast breaks by West Georgia, as the Lady Wolves got their first win of the season Tuesday night in Carrollton, Ga. against a TU team that fell to 0-4 before the Thanksgiving break.  West Georgia shot 46 percent in the second half, and managed to outscore the Tigerettes by 14 points in the second half to pick up a 69-59 victory.

Tuskegee Coach Tarsha Askew said that the struggles for the Tigerettes came primarily from a mental perspective.

"It was just mental," Askew said.  "Mental breakdowns.  Everything they (West Georgia) did in the second half was better after halftime.  It was just a matter of executing.  Some freshmen on the floor were not sure of the defensive rotations on the floor, so that kind of threw everything off.  But, everyone has to do their jobs."

Tuskegee stumbled out of the gate before using an 8-0 run to fight back from a 10-1 deficit to start the game, and trim the West Georgia lead to 10-9.  Later in the opening half, Chelsea Azore scored her only field goal of the night to pull Tuskegee ahead at 20-18.  A basket by Alannah Vincent on a fast break with just over two minutes remaining in the half allowed TU to head to the locker room with a 25-21 lead.  Vincent finished the night going 3-for-6 from the field.  Marie McAbee and Kajuanna Rivers were the top scorers for Tuskegee, as they put in 18 and 14 points, respectively.

Things got sour after halftime, when Marion Lemonnier hit three three-point field goals in the opening minutes.  Her third three of the second half, allowed the Lady Wolves to retake the lead back from Tuskegee at 32-31, with just over 13 minutes left in the game.  She finished with a team high 16 points, but also had low post help from Seandre Lee and Ashley Prather, who combined for 24 points.  Prather was also one rebound short of a double-double, as she had ten points and nine rebounds.

Askew said that the team has to regain focus in order to right the ship after the Thanksgiving holiday.

"It was a lack of knowing defensive rotations," Askew said.  "They really didn't do anyting special.  West Georgia didn't, and we told them everything that they (Tuskegee players) needed to know at the half.  It was just a matter of executing with the personnel that we had on the floor at the time, and we didn't do it."

Tuskegee has a great chance to recover, with three consecutive home games to begin the month of December.  The three games at the Chappie James Center will be played beginning Dec. 3rd, in a home contest against West Alabama, with a prime opportunity to avenge one of their first losses of the season.  Other games will also be played against Mobile and Auburn - Montgomery.

"That is probably what came from the layover," Askew said of the Tigerettes' 13-day layoff between games.  "We just need to know how to play games, so maybe when we get into more games and have more under our belts, we will get into better game shape."
