Gregory Green

Gregory L. Green Sr. has been a cornerstone of Tuskegee University Athletics and collegiate sports for nearly three decades, known for building championship programs and transforming the lives of student-athletes.

Currently serving as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Tuskegee, Green has led the Golden Tigers to one of the most successful eras in program history, earning back-to-back Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women’s Tennis Championships in 2024 and 2025 and consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances during those seasons.

Green’s leadership has revitalized Tuskegee tennis, where the women’s program has returned to national prominence. Under his guidance, the Golden Tigers have dominated conference play and reached new heights on the NCAA stage.

In recognition of his success, Green was named the SIAC Coach of the Year for women’s tennis in both 2023 and 2024, further cementing his reputation as one of the premier coaches in the conference and region.

Altogether, Green’s remarkable career includes 11 SIAC championships, nine NCAA tournament appearances, and nine Coach of the Year awards, cementing his status as one of the most accomplished and decorated coaches in Tuskegee and SIAC history.

Green’s impact at Tuskegee is part of a long and distinguished career that spans back to his coaching beginnings at Savannah State University in 1995. While at Savannah State, Green showcased his versatility and leadership, serving simultaneously as the Defensive Coordinator for football, Judicial Affairs Coordinator, and Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach.

During his tenure, Savannah State women’s tennis claimed the SIAC title three times, made three NCAA Tournament appearances, and led the conference in team GPA on four occasions. Green was honored as SIAC Coach of the Year three times during his four years there.

In 2000, Green’s career brought him for his first stint at Tuskegee, where he served in multiple capacities, including Compliance Officer, Defensive Coordinator for football, and Head Tennis Coach. Over the next five years, his influence was felt across all levels of athletics. On the football field, Tuskegee’s defense was nationally ranked each season and helped the program capture four SIAC Football Championships.

On the tennis courts, Green guided his teams to four SIAC Tennis Championships and six NCAA Tournament appearances, while also earning recognition for academic excellence with five SIAC Highest Team GPA honors for both men’s and women’s teams. He was named SIAC Tennis Coach of the Year four times during this span and was honored as Tuskegee University’s Coach of the Year.

Throughout his career, Green has also coached football at several institutions, including Winona State, Kentucky State, Texas Southern, Alabama State, and Miles College. Nicknamed "The King of Rings," he has been a part of 18 total championships as both a player and coach, underscoring his extraordinary ability to build winners on and off the field.

Previously, Green balanced his coaching duties with his role as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Support Services at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), a position he held from 2011 until his return to Tuskegee. During his tenure, he oversaw historic academic success, highlighted by UAB football achieving the highest APR and GPA in program history.

Green, who holds dual degrees in Psychology and Kinesiology from Winona State University and a master's degree in Kinesiology from Ashwood University, continues to inspire student-athletes with his tireless work ethic, championship mentality, and dedication to academic and athletic excellence.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Green is a proud father to three daughters, Kira, Keisha, and Jazmine, and one son, Gregory Jr.
