Tommie Lewis, Jr.

Tommie Lewis, Jr. begins his first season at Tuskegee as the defensive line coach and director of football operations following five years in a similar role at Miles College.
 
During his tenure with the Golden Bears, Lewis served as the defensive run game and recruiting coordinator from 2018-2022, including SIAC titles in 2018 and 2019, where his main responsibilities were overseeing the defensive line and weekly game planning. He was also responsible for numerous day-to-day recruiting operations, including running the football social media accounts which accumulated several students to the university and helped gain national exposure and a lot of interaction with several social media influencers.
 
Lewis spent a year as a defensive assistant at Southern Mississippi as the nickel backs coach and assistant to the defensive coordinator in 2017.
 
Prior to his work in Conference USA, he spent two years at his alma mater, Alcorn State, first serving as a defensive line graduate assistant in 2015 as the Braves won the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship. That year, the defense ranked fourth in the FCS level in total defense, while also ranking first in passing yards allowed and second in defense passing efficiency. The Braves also ranked fourth in total defense, tackles for loss (113) and sacks (42), while ranking sixth in third down defense.
 
In 2016, he took over coaching duties at outside linebacker and handling football operations. Lewis Jr. was also given the responsibility of being the assistant special teams coordinator and NFL liaison while with the Braves.
 
Lewis jumped right into coaching upon graduation, getting his start at Southwestern Oklahoma State University as a defensive line coach and assistant special teams coordinator for one season. With the Bulldogs, he helped develop a GAC 2014 First-Team All-Conference honoree, Defensive Player of the Year, and a Region 3 Defensive Player of the Year.
 
A 2014 graduate as a student-athlete from Alcorn State University, Lewis earned a master’s degree in athletic administration and coaching also from Alcorn State in 2017.
 
The Birmingham, Alabama native starred at A.H. Parker High before moving over to Alcorn State, where he played three seasons.
