JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Tuskegee baseball team dropped both games of a Friday doubleheader to Edward Waters, falling 10-4 in game one and 14-3 in seven innings in game two to open a three-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) weekend series at Henry L. Aaron Field at James P. Small Memorial Park.
With the losses, the Golden Tigers were unable to overcome early offensive surges from the Tigers, who combined for 24 runs on the day behind timely hitting and aggressive base running.
Edward Waters 10, Tuskegee 4
In the opener, Edward Waters struck early with a three-run first inning, taking advantage of a pair of hits and an RBI double to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Tuskegee responded in the third inning, cutting into the deficit when Zion Ashby delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home Jaiden Brown, followed by an RBI single from Ryan Morrow to make it 3-2.
Edward Waters answered immediately in the bottom of the fourth, regaining momentum with a two-run frame highlighted by an RBI single and a two-run home run from Daniel Donaldson-Fountain to push the lead to 6-2. The home team continued to add on late, plating four runs in the eighth inning to extend the margin to 10-2.
Tuskegee showed late fight in the ninth as Mario Craig connected on a two-run home run to left field, scoring C. Smith and trimming the final margin to 10-4.
The Golden Tigers finished with eight hits in game one, led by multi-hit performances from Chris Smith, Craig, and Jabari Johnson, while Craig drove in two runs. On the mound, Amare Morgan took the loss after allowing six runs over five innings, while the bullpen combined to throw the final three frames.
Edward Waters totaled 12 hits, with Donaldson-Fountain leading the way with a home run and two RBIs, while Andres Carracciolo and Jordan Smith each added multiple hits and RBIs. Tyler Pfirrmann earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing four runs while striking out eight.
Edward Waters 14, Tuskegee 3
In game two, Tuskegee again got on the board early as Johnson homered to right field in the second inning to give the Golden Tigers a 1-0 lead. However, Edward Waters responded with a decisive third inning, erupting for five runs on five hits, including a three-run home run from Carracciolo to take control of the game at 5-1.
Tuskegee answered in the fourth inning with two runs, capitalizing on an RBI single from Smith and a stolen base that allowed another run to score, cutting the deficit to 5-3. The momentum was short-lived, as Edward Waters broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with a five-run inning, highlighted by multiple extra-base hits and aggressive base running to extend the lead to 10-3.
The Tigers continued to apply pressure in the fifth and sixth innings, adding four more runs to bring the score to 14-3 and trigger the run-rule in seven innings.
Tuskegee recorded 6 hits in game two, with Johnson's home run providing the early spark, while Smith added an RBI and a multi-hit effort. On the mound, Christian Baker was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs over four innings, while the Golden Tigers' staff issued six walks and allowed 13 hits.
Edward Waters finished with 13 hits in the second game, led by Carracciolo's home run and four RBIs, while Leggarius Johnson also homered and drove in three runs. Helson Cabrera earned the win after allowing three runs over 3.2 innings.
Tuskegee will look to bounce back in the series finale on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET in Jacksonville.
