MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- Tuskegee men's soccer took a lead into half time but surrendered two late goals in a 2-1 loss to Montevallo on Saturday.
Chikwere Ikpo scored his team-leading third goal to put the Golden Tigers ahead in the 33rd minute, giving Tuskegee the advantage heading into the halftime break. The Golden Tigers held onto their lead for much of the second half, but Montevallo's Juan Diego Alfaro Barrantes scored in the 78th minute to level the match at 1.
Just four minutes later, a foul by Tuskegee goalkeeper Samuel Glasgow resulted in a penalty kick for the Falcons. Barrantes converted the opportunity, scoring his second goal of the night and giving Montevallo a 2-1 advantage. Glasgow kept Tuskegee within striking distance throughout the match, recording 10 saves, but his strong performance was not enough to prevent the Golden Tigers from suffering another defeat.
The loss extended Tuskegee's winless streak as the Golden Tigers continue to battle through their inaugural season. Despite the disappointing result, Tuskegee showed its ability to compete with Montevallo for most of the night before the Falcons' late comeback decided the match.
The Golden Tigers are back in action on Oct. 18 when they travel to face LaGrange College beginning at 2 p.m.
