TUSKEGEE, Ala. — Tuskegee women's basketball picked up a strong home victory Thursday night inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center, defeating LeMoyne-Owen College 56–42 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
The Golden Tigers' balanced attack and improved defensive efficiency underpinned the team's eighth win of the season and continued its home court success.
Tuskegee controlled the pace throughout the night, winning each quarter and closing the contest with a 14-point margin. The Golden Tigers shot 40.0 percent from the field in the first quarter and used aggressive rebounding and disciplined execution to build an early lead. Although shots were harder to come by in the second half, Tuskegee's free-throw shooting and defensive positioning helped maintain separation.
Senior guard Kae'la Mitchell led all scorers for the Golden Tigers with 13 points on efficient shooting, going 5-for-10 from the field and connecting on her lone three-point attempt while also converting 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Mitchell's scoring was backed by senior forward Shemaiah Mackin, who collected 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to anchor Tuskegee's inside presence. Mackin's rebounding and defensive activity limited second chances for the Lady Magicians and helped the Golden Tigers control the tempo.
Off the bench, Tenea Robinson provided a timely scoring spark with nine points, converting 4-of-7 shots including aggressive looks in the paint and on transition bucket, while forward Erin Perry chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
Tuskegee finished the night shooting 20-for-50 from the field and 14-for-19 from the free throw line, demonstrating a willingness to attack the basket and convert at the line when open looks were harder to come by.
For LeMoyne-Owen, Janara Williams led all scorers with 18 points and 11 rebounds, showcasing her strength around the rim and ability to finish through contact. Kiera McGhee added 11 points, including two made three-pointers, but the Lady Magicians were limited offensively, finishing 15-for-49 (30.6 percent) from the field with just 2-for-11 shooting from three.
Defensively, Tuskegee held LeMoyne-Owen to just 42 points, contesting shots and controlling the defensive boards while limiting easy opportunities. The Golden Tigers also took advantage of free-throw shooting to extend the lead late, a key factor in maintaining separation in the second half as field goals became harder to come by.
With the win, Tuskegee improves to 8-4 overall and 8-3 in SIAC play, continuing its strong position in league standings as the conference slate deepens.
