ATLANTA, Ga. — Tuskegee men's basketball dropped a hard-fought road contest Saturday afternoon, falling 77-69 to Morehouse College inside Forbes Arena.
The Golden Tigers came out strong offensively, trading baskets early and staying within striking distance throughout the first half. Tuskegee shot 44.8 percent from the field before the break and leaned on aggressive interior play to keep pace, but Morehouse used efficient perimeter shooting and trips to the free-throw line to take a 36-31 advantage into halftime.
Morehouse opened the second half with momentum, pushing the lead to double digits behind hot shooting and strong guard play. The Maroon Tigers shot 52.2 percent from the floor in the first half and finished the game at 42.0 percent overall, while knocking down 10 three-pointers and converting 25-for-29 attempts at the free-throw line.
Tuskegee responded with a late surge, cutting into the deficit behind a balanced offensive effort and improved efficiency in the paint. The Golden Tigers shot 50.0 percent from the field in the second half and outscored Morehouse in points in the paint, 30-10, but could not fully close the gap down the stretch as Morehouse made timely shots and free throws to secure the win.
RJ Walker led Tuskegee with 21 points on 8-for-16 shooting, adding four assists and four rebounds.
Kusamae Draper followed with 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while
Khalil Genwright chipped in 10 points. As a team, Tuskegee finished shooting 47.3 percent from the field and held a 37-29 rebounding edge.
Morehouse was paced by Sincere Moore, who scored a game-high 24 points on 5-for-8 shooting while going a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. JerMontae Hill added 19 points, and Josiah Lawson contributed 14 off the bench. Morehouse also received a significant boost from its reserves, outscoring Tuskegee 24-13 in bench points.
Tuskegee will look to regroup as it continues conference play, while Morehouse improves its SIAC standing with the home victory.
