Men’s Basketball Extends Win Streak to Eight With 87-81 Victory Over Albany State

TUSKEGEE, Ala. — Tuskegee men's basketball continued its strong run through SIAC play on Saturday night, defeating Albany State 87-81 at the Daniel "Chappie" James Center to secure its eight consecutive victory, a streak that dates to December 17.

The Golden Tigers set the tone early, building a 37-25 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and control of the paint. Tuskegee shot 37.1 percent from the field in the opening half while limiting Albany State to 33.3 percent, using balanced scoring and steady defensive pressure to take a double-digit advantage into the break.

Albany State responded with an aggressive second half, cutting into the deficit behind hot shooting and frequent trips to the free-throw line. The Rams outscored Tuskegee 56-50 after halftime and trimmed the lead to as few as four points late in the game. However, the Golden Tigers answered each push with timely baskets and free throws to preserve the win.

Tuskegee shot 45.3 percent (29-for-64) from the field for the game and went 24-for-35 from the free throw line, converting key opportunities down the stretch. The Golden Tigers also controlled the interior, scoring 46 points in the paint, while adding 16 second-chance points and 14 fast break points.

Anthony Wright led all scorers with a season-high 23 points, shooting 10-for-13 from the field while adding eight rebounds. RJ Walker followed with 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers and adding six assists. Kusamae Draper recorded a strong all-around performance with a 16 point and 10 rebound double-double, while Khalil Genwright chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds.

Albany State was paced by Shakur Poteat, who finished with 19 points, and Kendale Johnson, who added 18 points in the loss.

With the win, Tuskegee improved its momentum in conference play and continued to build confidence heading into the next stretch of the SIAC schedule.

The Golden Tigers will look to keep the streak alive as they prepare for their next conference matchup against Fort Valley State on the road later this week.
