FAIRFIELD, Ala. — Tuskegee women's basketball battled through a tough road environment Saturday night but fell to SIAC rival Miles, 81-52, at Knox-Windham Gym.
Miles set the tone early, jumping out to a 23-10 lead after the opening quarter and extending its advantage to 44-19 at halftime. Tuskegee continued to compete on both ends of the floor, trimming the margin slightly in the third quarter, but the Golden Bears maintained control throughout to secure the conference win.
Tenea Robinson led Tuskegee with a team-high 17 points, finishing 5-of-12 from the field and 7-of-8 at the free-throw line while adding three rebounds and two blocks.
Arianna Durrell contributed eight points, four assists, and four steals, while
Erin Perry added eight points and four rebounds.
Tuskegee found success attacking the paint, scoring 30 points in the paint, and converted 17-for-22 free throws (77.3 percent) on the night. The Golden Tigers also forced turnovers that led to 17 points off turnovers and added 10 fast break points.
Defensively,
Shemaiah Mackin and Robinson combined for all eight Tuskegee blocks, as the team also recorded 11 steals in the contest.
Tuskegee closed the game strong in the fourth quarter, shooting 56.3 percent (9-for-16)
from the field in the final period, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
The Golden Tigers move to 9-6 overall and 9-5 in SIAC play and will look to rebound as conference action continues.
