TUSKEGEE, Ala. — The Tuskegee baseball team opened its final home series of the 2025 season with a dramatic 12-10 win over SIAC opponent Lane College on Friday evening at Washington Field.
Â
The Golden Tigers used a 15-hit offensive outburst and key relief pitching down the stretch to hold off a resilient Dragons squad and improve to 14-28 overall and 10-18 in conference play, while Lane dropped to 11-26 overall and 11-16 in SIAC action.
Â
In a game that featured five lead changes and 22 combined runs, Tuskegee came out firing, scoring three in the first and two more in the second to take a 5-2 lead.
Â
Lane responded with a three-run fourth and a three-run fifth to tie the game and briefly pull ahead, but the Golden Tigers reclaimed the advantage with four unanswered runs between the fifth and sixth innings and a three-run burst in the eighth to seal the win.
Â
Devon Lee led the Golden Tigers offensively, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Â
He also earned his first save of the season by recording the final out with the tying run on base in the ninth.
Â
Jacobi Brooks continued his strong stretch with a 3-for-5 day, while
Scott Williams,
Samarion Ward, and
John Saffold each delivered clutch RBI hits.
Â
Saffold's three-run triple in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the difference-maker.
Â
Tuskegee trailed 8-6 entering the bottom of the fifth before Williams tripled home a run and Ward followed with an RBI single to even the score at 8-8.
Â
After Lee reached in the sixth and advanced to third on a passed ball, he came home on another passed ball to give the Golden Tigers the lead.
Â
In the eighth, with two outs and the bases loaded, Saffold launched a triple to right field to clear the bases and push the margin to 12-8.
Â
Lane threatened in the ninth, scoring twice and loading the bases, but Lee closed the door with a game-ending strikeout to preserve the win.
Â
Rodney Mudd II (2-2) picked up the win for Tuskegee, throwing five innings of relief and allowing five runs on two hits while striking out two and walking eight.
