TUSKEGEE, Ala. — Tuskegee junior guard
Khalil Genwright has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, following a standout two-game stretch that powered the Golden Tigers to a perfect 2-0 record.
Genwright delivered one of the most complete performances of any player in the conference this week, averaging 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and one steal, while shooting 41.2 percent from the field. He led Tuskegee in scoring in both contests and continued to anchor the Golden Tigers' offense as one of the SIAC's most reliable guards.
Tuskegee opened the week with a 68-53 home victory over Allen on Dec. 11, where Genwright turned in a dynamic performance. He scored 16 points on 3-for-7 shooting, knocked down a three-pointer, and dominated from the free-throw line at 9-for-11. He also added five rebounds, two steals, and an assist in nearly 30 minutes of action. His timely scoring stretches and ability to control the tempo helped fuel multiple second-half runs that secured the double-digit win.
Two days later, Genwright shined again in a defensive battle against Benedict, helping Tuskegee grind out a 52-46 victory in the Chappie James Center. He finished with 14 points on 4-for-10 shooting, including a crucial three-pointer, and added 5-for-7 free throws. His three rebounds, two steals, and block were equally impactful, and he played over 39 minutes, demonstrating his durability and leadership in a tightly contested conference matchup. His late-game scoring and poise at the line were instrumental in closing out the win.
