Golden Tigers Fall to Morehouse 27-20 in Historic Rivalry Game

Tuskegee’s Early Lead Slips Away in Fourth-Quarter Rally

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Tuskegee football dropped a hard-fought 27-20 decision to Morehouse in the 89th edition of the Morehouse-Tuskegee Classic on Saturday evening inside the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.

The defeat marked the Golden Tigers' first loss in the storied rivalry since 2021, snapping a three-game win streak in the series. With the loss, Tuskegee fell to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in SIAC play.

Tuskegee looked dominant early, scoring on its second possession of the game when quarterback Bryson McGrew capped a short drive with a 27-yard rushing touchdown to give the Golden Tigers a 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Lorcan Ryans extended the advantage with a 27-yard field goal, followed minutes later by a 59-yard touchdown strike from McGrew to EJ Hall that made it 17-0 midway through the period.

Morehouse got on the board late in the first half on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Miles Scott to Nicholas Woodford, trimming the margin to 17-6 at the break.

Tuskegee added to its lead early in the third quarter with another field goal from Ryans, this time from 22 yards out, pushing the score to 20-6.

However, the Maroon Tigers rallied with 21 unanswered points, fueled by a trio of touchdown passes from Scott, including a pair to Kamrin Brunson and a game-winner to Maurie Veney with 1:55 left in regulation.

McGrew led the Golden Tigers' offense with 230 passing yards and 70 rushing yards, accounting for 300 of the team's 382 total yards.

Ja'Khael Rowser contributed 76 rushing yards on 16 carries, while Hall continued his run of strong performances with six receptions for 152 receiving yards.

Tuskegee outgained Morehouse 382-362 in total offense and controlled the clock for more than 33 minutes, but turnovers and six sacks proved costly down the stretch.

Defensively, Shawn Smith recorded a career-high 10 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, while Kaquan Kimber added seven tackles and a stop behind the line. Masiah Wells contributed the team's lone sack and finished with 2.5 tackles for loss. Mikael King Jr. came up with an interception in the third quarter that set up Ryans' second field goal.

Morehouse quarterback Miles Scott threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns, connecting with five different receivers, while the Maroon Tigers' defense came up with three fumble recoveries, six sacks, and an interception to complete the comeback.
