Golden Tigers Win Second Straight Overtime Home Game, Defeat Spring Hill 81-77

TUSKEGEE – The home finale of 2023-24 for the Tuskegee men's basketball team did not go by without excitement, as the Golden Tigers won their second consecutive double overtime game with an 81-77 win over Spring Hill inside of Chappie James Center.
 
Kusamae Draper scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds in the game, followed by Kevin Sesberry with 19, and D'Anthony Pennington added 15 points and nine assists in the double overtime win that saw Tuskegee lead for nearly 27 minutes of play in the game.

Tuskegee has now won 10 of its last 13 games and move ahead of the Badgers for second place in the SIAC West standings.

Pennington drew a double team in the lane and fed Draper for a dunk to open the scoring in the second OT, as both teams traded baskets over the first few minutes of the period. Tied at 75-75, Tuskegee scored four straight points, on scores from Dylan Cambridge and Pennington to gain control, later securing the 81-76 win.
 
The game was sent to a second overtime after Christopher Whitmore Jr. hit a three with 17 seconds left to pull TU within two points at 71-69, before forcing a turnover and a pair of free throws from Sesberry to tie the game at 71-71 at the close of the first overtime.
 
Tuskegee started the game strong in the first half, shooting 42.9 percent from the floor behind nine points from Pennington and seven points and seven rebounds from Martez Jones. The Golden Tigers led by as many as seven points in the period and for nearly 18 minutes of play and held a 37-34 advantage at the half.

Spring Hill led for over ten minutes of play in the second half, including going on a 13-0 run to lead by as many as eight points in the period. TU battled back from the deficit, getting within one possession with 35 seconds to play before tying the game and forcing extra time on a layup from Pennington at the buzzer.
 
Three Badgers scored in double figures on the day, led by Walter Peggs Jr. with 21 points and five rebounds, followed by Isaiah Veal with 20 points and four assists and Timothy Reilly with 11 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks in the loss.
 
Up Next
Tuskegee will return to play in a week, as the program will hit the road for the final regular season trip of the season, starting with Central State on Saturday, Feb. 24 in Wilberforce, Ohio.
