Tuskegee Takes Down Lane at Home

TUSKEGEE – A pair of Golden Tigers scored in double figures, led by D'Anthony Pennington who had a game-high 21 points, as Tuskegee got back on the win column by defeating Lane, 56-49, on Saturday afternoon inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.

Defense continued to be a staple for the Golden Tigers (10-13, 9-7 SIAC) as it has been all season, as they held Lane (9-14, 7-10 SIAC) to just 27.8 percent shooting in the first half, on 5-for-18 attempts from the field.
 
The first half saw teams battling blow for blow, opening the game with threes on both sides, and seeing the game tied three times before the first media timeout. Tuskegee started to gain some separation after a long-range jumper from Christopher Whitmore Jr., however Lane tied the game two more times at both 12-12 and 14-14, before taking a lead after a fast break score with just over 12 minutes to play.
 
Later trailing 20-19 with 6:22 to play in the first, Martez Jones scored on consecutive possessions inside to spark a 9-0 run to end the half with TU leading 28-20 and the momentum heading into the break.

Lane did not shoot much better in the second stanza, shooting 32 percent and making just eight field goals in the second 20 minutes of play. Meanwhile, Tuskegee shot slightly better at 38.9 percent, however also shot 70 percent from the free throw line, going 14-for-20 in the second to help seal the contest.
 
The Dragons cut into the TU lead on multiple occasions and tied the game at 30-30 with 14:08 to play, however the Golden Tigers continued to stave off the efforts, finishing the game on an 8-2 run over the final three minutes of regulation.

Jones was the second Golden Tiger in double figures in the win, accounting for 13 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and seven rebounds, while Kevin Sesberry added seven points, two rebounds, a block and steal.

Tuskegee shot 42.9 percent from the field, knocking down four three-pointers and 16 free throws in the win. Lane was limited to 30.2 percent from the field with Floyd Williams and Kyle Houston leading the scoring with 15 and 10 points respectively.

Tuskegee will remain at home next week to host LeMoyne-Owen on Monday evening inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
