MOBILE, Ala. – Tuskegee men's basketball (9-11, 8-6) extended its current five-game winning streak with a 79-66 road win over Spring Hill in Mobile on Wednesday night. The Golden Tigers led for nearly 29 minutes of play in the game, behind a combined 57 points from their top scoring trio.
With the win, Tuskegee concluded their four-game road stretch unbeaten, and have only lost one game since the start of 2024.
D'Anthony Pennington led the trio of double figure scorers for the Golden Tigers with 27 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line, along with four assists and three rebounds.
Martez Jones recorded his ninth double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, followed by
Kusamae Draper who tallied 14 points to go along with a pair of rebounds, a block and steal.
As a team, Tuskegee shot 44.4 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Golden Tigers drained seven total three-pointers and made a season-high 24-free throws in the win.
The first half action in Mobile saw six lead changes and three ties as Tuskegee and the Badgers traded blows. Spring Hill held its largest advantage of the frame at 24-15 with 6:05 on the clock, but the Golden Tigers responded with its best scoring run just before the break. Tuskegee scored ten-straight points to take a 28-26 lead, however trailed at 36-35 at the half.
Pennington led the offensive attack in the first half for Tuskegee scoring 16 points including shooting 4-of-5 from the three-point line. Meanwhile, Jones helped set the tone defensively, grabbing nine rebounds, including seven defensives, along with three steals in the first 20 minutes.
Tuskegee took control in the second half, gaining an early advantage with a 12-4 run to gain a 47-40 break at the first media timeout. TU took its first double digit lead at 55-44 with just under 13 minutes remaining, before Spring Hill made its own run, cutting the lead to just four points (60-56) with 7:53 to go.
From there, the Golden Tigers regained the momentum, outscoring the Badgers 12-3 and pushing the lead back to double figures and a game-high 13 points at 72-59 with just over a minute to play before closing out the win.
