ABOUT TUSKEGEE (2-4, 1-1 SIAC)
Tuskegee has shown resilience this season, with their two victories coming at home, but will now face a tough road test as they continue to build momentum in the conference.
The Golden Tigers have seen strong individual performances from
Kevin Sesberry, who leads the team with an impressive 15.7 points per game and 4.7 rebounds. The guard has been a key contributor on both ends of the court, particularly in the overtime win against Georgia Southwestern State where he scored 27 points in the second half and overtime.
Along with Sesberry,
Kusamae Draper has been one of the most consistent players, averaging 13.3 points per game and 5.2 rebounds, while contributing on defense with several key steals and blocks.
Despite some early-season struggles, Tuskegee's offense has found its rhythm in recent games, particularly in their strong second-half performance against Georgia Southwestern.
The Golden Tigers are averaging 68.7 points per game while shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from beyond the arc.
However, free-throw shooting has been a challenge for the team, as they are converting just 57.0 percent of their free throws, a stat they will look to improve as they head into this matchup.
Defensively, Tuskegee has been effective, limiting opponents to 66.5 points per game, and has averaged eight steals per game, with
D'Anthony Pennington contributing significantly on that front, with a team-high 2.3 steals per contest.
ABOUT KENTUCKY STATE (4-2, 2-1 SIAC)
Kentucky State comes into the matchup with a 4-2 record and a 2-1 mark in SIAC play. The Thorobreds are coming off a strong 83-72 win over Edward Waters, led by their standout players
Lavar Miller Jr. and
Aziel Blackwell.
Miller has been a force, averaging 20.3 points per game and showcasing his ability to stretch the floor with a 42.6 percent shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
Blackwell, averaging 17.3 points per game, has been a key contributor for Kentucky State as well, helping lead their high-scoring offense.
The Thorobreds' three-point shooting, particularly their 38.9 percent from beyond the arc, will be another challenge for Tuskegee's defense.
In terms of team statistics, Kentucky State leads the Golden Tigers in field goal percentage at 40.9 percent compared to Tuskegee's 39.5 percent. However, Tuskegee has been effective from the free-throw line, shooting 75.0 percent, and they will look to capitalize on that advantage.
The Golden Tigers will also aim to improve on their three-point shooting as they face off against Kentucky State's strong perimeter defense.
Defensively, Kentucky State has allowed 79.6 points per game, and their rebounding efforts have been a point of emphasis.
The Thorobreds have averaged 41.7 rebounds per game but have struggled with turnovers, averaging 17.1 turnovers per game. Kentucky State has also struggled at times with their field goal defense, allowing opponents to shoot 42.6 percent from the field.
The matchup will feature a contrast of styles: Tuskegee's solid defense and strong rebounding versus Kentucky State's high-scoring offense and three-point shooting.
The Golden Tigers will look to control the tempo of the game, force turnovers, and capitalize on their opportunities at the free-throw line. Key for Tuskegee will be containing Miller Jr. and Blackwell while ensuring they limit Kentucky State's three-point shooting.
This road game presents a great opportunity for Tuskegee to build upon their recent success and improve to 2-1 in SIAC play.
