LIVINGSTON, Ala. __ In their opening game of the year, Tuskegee's women's basketball team showcased resilience and a strong defensive performance, coming out on top with a 60-50 road win over West Alabama inside Pruitt Hall. This victory puts the Golden Tigers at 1-0 to start the season.
Tuskegee maintained control through most of the game, showing balanced offensive and defensive efforts. Their defense effectively limited West Alabama's scoring opportunities, especially during critical stretches of the game, which allowed them to secure a decisive win.
The team capitalized on turnovers and utilized their quick transition play to outpace the home team.
The Golden Tigers opened the game with some early struggles but quickly found momentum. After a competitive first quarter that saw both teams trading baskets, West Alabama held a slim lead at 14-12 going into the second quarter. However, Tuskegee's defensive adjustments and improved ball movement helped shift the game in their favor.
Tuskegee locked down defensively, holding West Alabama to a limited scoring output. By halftime, the Golden Tigers had overtaken the home team, entering the break with a 26-22 lead after an impressive defensive showing and critical baskets from
Brittney Bolin and
Jasmine Manuel.
Tuskegee extended their lead significantly in the third quarter, outscoring West Alabama with a run that included key contributions from Bolin, whose aggressive play inside and defensive stops widened the margin. At the end of the third, the Golden Tigers led 45-36, giving them a comfortable cushion heading into the final quarter.
West Alabama attempted to rally, narrowing the lead to single digits early in the quarter. However, Tuskegee's defense once again stepped up, forcing turnovers and controlling the boards. Late free throws and consistent ball control in the final minutes secured the Golden Tigers' 60-50 win.
Tuskegee's balanced scoring attack saw contributions from multiple players, with several stepping up to ensure the team maintained a consistent scoring pace. Effective shooting and strong rebounding efforts helped Tuskegee maintain control throughout the game.
The Golden Tigers' defensive presence was a game-changer, as they forced multiple turnovers and limited West Alabama's second-chance points. Their ability to control the boards and prevent easy baskets was instrumental in their victory.
Bolin was a key contributor on both ends of the floor, showcasing her experience and poise. Her 14 points was a game-high on the day, while her efforts on defense were pivotal in Tuskegee's success, as she helped disrupt West Alabama's offensive flow with two steals and six rebounds.
Manuel played a crucial role in rebounding, providing Tuskegee with additional possessions and helping the team dominate the paint, finishing with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Transfers
