ATLANTA, Ga. __ Tuskegee's junior forward,
Kusamae Draper, has been named to the Preseason All-SIAC Second Team following an impressive 2023-24 season, announced by the conference office on Monday morning.
Draper was a crucial contributor for the Golden Tigers, starting all 28 games and averaging 13.7 points per game, placing him among the team's top scorers. He shot an efficient 50.5% from the field, accumulating 141 field goals on 279 attempts.
Additionally, Draper was a force on the boards, averaging 6.0 rebounds per game with a total of 167 rebounds (60 offensive and 107 defensive), which demonstrated his ability to contribute both offensively and defensively.
Draper's presence on the defensive end was also impactful, recording 13 blocks and 16 steals throughout the season, making him a key player in the Golden Tigers' defensive schemes. He also contributed 27 assists, showing his ability to facilitate for his teammates when needed.
A standout performance in the season came against Central State, where Draper logged 19 points and 14 rebounds, showcasing his ability to dominate in the paint. His consistent performance throughout the season solidified his place as one of the premier forwards in the SIAC, leading to his well-deserved recognition as a Preseason All-SIAC Second Team selection.
Draper's contributions were instrumental in Tuskegee's second half push last year to the postseason, including a 12-8 mark in conference play, as the Golden Tigers aim to build on this success in the upcoming season.
Tuskegee University's men's basketball team was also picked to finish second in the SIAC Western Division for the 2024-25 season, according to the preseason poll announced by the conference office. This prediction follows a successful 2023-24 season where the Golden Tigers went 13-15 overall and 12-8 in conference play, making them one of the strongest contenders in the division.
