Golden Tigers Looking to Continue Strong Play on the Road

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee men's basketball team visits LeMoyne-Owen in Memphis on Saturday, January 20, to begin a four-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference trip away from home. The tip for the first game is scheduled inside Bruce-Johnson Hall at 3 p.m. CT.

The Golden Tigers (5-11, 4-6 SIAC) defeated Central State 63-57 in their most recent contest on January 15 at the Daniel "Chappie" James Center. They have won three of their previous four games heading into the weekend.

Forward Kusamae Draper was the leading scorer in the win over the Marauders, recording his first double-double, at 16 points and 14 rebounds, while D'Anthony Pennington and Martez Jones finished with 14 and 12 points on the day.

Jones is the reigning SIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after a 26 point and 13 rebound effort at home against Kentucky State on Saturday. With marks of 14.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, Jones is the only player in the conference averaging a double-double and ranks first in rebounds and 14th in points in the league.

LeMoyne-Owen (6-9, 4-4 SIAC) has proved to be one of the top offensive teams in the conference, averaging 75 points per contest so far. Christian Wells leads the team and is fourth in the SIAC in scoring at 18 points per, followed by Philpps Joseph at 13 and Tariq Shepherd at 10.2 points per contest. Meanwhile, the Magicians have ten players who average at least 10 minutes played, with eight scoring at least six points per game.

Saturday will be the first of two meetings this season for the two programs, who split last year's home-and-home, with both teams winning on the opponent's home court.

Meanwhile, Lane comes into the weekend at 5-8 overall and 4-5 in the SIAC after dropping two straight on the road, the first to Miles 80-60 (Jan. 13) before falling to Livingstone 69-63. Darell Johnson is the lone double figure scorer on the roster at 13.3 points per game, while Floyd Williams is next at 9.2 points per contest.

Tuskegee and Lane will also meet for the first time this season. TU is looking to snap a two-game losing streak to the Dragons, with the last win coming on Feb. 17, 2022.
