Men’s Basketball Prepare to Face Kentucky State in SIAC Tournament

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Tuskegee University, the top seed in the TIAA SIAC Men's Basketball Championship presented by Cricket, will take on Kentucky State Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Savannah State's Tiger Arena.

Kentucky State advanced with an 83-70 win over Albany State Monday afternoon.

The Golden Tigers, 20-7 overall, went 15-5 in league play and are riding a four-game winning streak. With the top seed they received a double bye in the tournament, having not not played since a 92-71 win over Kentucky State on Feb. 20.

Tuskegee swept the season series against the Thorobreds, winning 90-69 on the road on Jan. 7 before coming away with its last victory at the Chappie James Center.

The Golden Tigers have been led by guards Gregg Boyd and Devin Booker, a pair of All-SIAC selections, for much of the season. Boyd, a 5-foot-10 redshirt senior from Seat Pleasant, MD, earned first-team All-SIAC honors after averaging 13.3 points and 2.5 assists per game. Meanwhile, Booker, a 6-4 senior from Chicago, earned second-team All-SIAC honors after averaging a team-high 14.4 points per game to go along with 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

Tuskegee coach Benjy Taylor is trying to become the first Tuskegee coach to win the tournament title since Leon Douglas did it in 2014.

Kentucky State is led by Kong Kong and Jalon Andrews. Kong had 21 points in the win Monday over Albany State to help Thorobreds advance to the quarterfinals. He was perfect from the field, going 8-for-8, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range and made all three of his free throw attempts. Andrews had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, along with live stats being available for the contest.
