Tuskegee Falls to Winston-Salem State in on First Day of Chris Paul HBCU Tip Off

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee (0-3, 0-0 SIAC) was unable to come away with the win in its first game of the weekend as the Golden Tigers fell to Winston-Salem State (3-1, 0-0 CIAA) 65-59 Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena on day one of the Chris Paul HBCU Tip Off.

Tuskegee earned an early lead but were unable to overcome a quiet night from behind the arc (3-of-14 from three-point range) and a -7 rebounding deficit in the loss.

In defeat, Tuskegee was led by 16 points from D'Anthony Pennington, who was joined in double figures by Kusamae Draper 12) and Dylan Cambridge (10).

The first half saw the two programs fight back-and-forth, including four lead changes within the first seven minutes of play, before a 10-2 run from Winston-Salem State gave the Rams a nine-point lead at 15-6 with just over nine minutes to play.

The Golden Tigers responded with a run of their own, eventually tying the game at 22-22 at the 1:47 mark, before later taking a three-point lead, an advantage they carried into halftime at 27-24.

Winston-Salem State took a lead early in the second half, as the teams stayed within two points of each other until an inside score from Kusame Draper to put Tuskegee up 37-33.

The game remained close over the next few possessions, as the score was tied five times in the first six minutes of play. The Rams gained their next lead of the game at the 11:37 mark, as a fast break score gave them a 46-45 edge, and they did not give up the lead for the rest of the contest, taking the 65-59 win.
