Tuskegee Falls to Union in Season Opener

SHORTER, Ga. __ Union (1-0, 0-0 GSC) used a big start to beat Tuskegee (0-1, 0-0 SIAC) 86-65 on Friday evening in the first game of the South Region Crossover, held in the Winthrop-King Centre.

Tuskegee shot 44 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range for the game, while Union shot 55 percent from the field and 42 percent from long range in the game.
 
D'Anthony Pennington led Tuskegee 20 points and one assist in 27 minutes on 7-for-15 shooting. Kusamae Draper added 11 points and three rebounds, while Dylan Cambridge finished with 11 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
 
Despite an early lead from the Golden Tigers in the first half, Union took its first lead with a three-pointer to go up 16-15 with just over 11 minutes left, and held on to the lead and even extended it to as many as 14 on two occasions, ending the half leading 40-26 over the Golden Tigers.

Tuskegee cut the deficit back to single digits at 40-32 with just under 17 minutes left on a fastbreak score from Naquan Lyons, however Union hit a pair of consecutive three-pointers to go up 48-36 with just over 14 minutes to play.
 
The Bulldogs crossed the 50-point mark with yet another three at 51-38, and continued to control the momentum for the remainder of the game, holding on to the double figure lead and stretching the edge to as many as 21 in the 86-65 final.

Jordan Pyke led Union with a game-high 25 points along with three rebounds and two assists, followed by Isaiah Victory who finished with 20 points, five assists, and three rebounds and Ahmad Johnson who finished with 14 points and four rebounds in the loss.

Tuskegee will face off against host school Shorter on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. ET. for the final game of the weekend. The game will be broadcasted on the FloSports Hoops Network, with live audio on the Golden Tiger Sports Network.
