TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Second half woes plagued Tuskegee men's basketball on Saturday afternoon as they fell 70-60 to LeMoyne-Owen in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play inside of the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
Both teams came out to a steady rhythm to start the game, as they traded scores and either side leading by more than two points until a 4-0 run capped by a jumper from
Gregg Boyd (Seat Pleasant, Md.) put the Golden Tigers (13-5, 8-3 SIAC) up 17-13 with 14 minutes to play in the half.
Nearly a minute later,
Steve Dulley (Kansas City, Mo.) made a steal and added a three-pointer to put Tuskegee back up four at 20-16, sparking a 7-0 run to gain their first double figure lead of the ball game at 27-16 at the 8:34 mark after a dunk from
Chip Culpepper (Hoover, Ala.).
From there, LeMoyne-Owen cut into the lead soon after, however the Golden Tigers remained in control for the remainder of the half, despite a pair of runs, as they went into the locker rooms at the break leading 42-31.
The Magicians started the second half with a three on their first possession to pull within single digits, followed by scores from Booker and
Kusamae Draper (Conyers, Ga.) to put the deficit back to ten at 49-39 with just under 15 minutes to play.
Following another score from Booker to make the score 54-43 at the 12:16 mark, the Golden Tigers offense stalled as they were held scoreless over nearly six minutes of play while LeMoyne-Owen went on a 12-0 run before free throws from
Martez Jones (Tuskegee, Ala.) allowed Tuskegee to hold onto to a 56-55 lead with 6:46 to play.
After a pair of scores from the Magicians to take a 59-56 lead, the Golden Tigers continued to fight, however the Magicians began to pull away as they again held down the opposing offensive attack, closing out the game with a 11-0 run that saw Tuskegee fall 70-60 in the game.
Booker was the lone Golden Tiger to finish in double figures with 14 points and three rebounds, while Draper added eight points and eight rebounds on the day. Tuskegee finished the game shooting 22-for-66) percent from the floor, 25 (4-for-16) percent from three and 80 (12-for-15) percent from the free throw line in the game.

The Golden Tigers will remain at home for their next matchup as they host the Lane Dragons on Monday, January 16 in the last part of the doubleheader starting at 7:30 p.m. inside of the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
