Golden Tigers win sixth straight with win at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. I Tuskegee (7-7, 6-2 SIAC) extended their win streak to six games with an 10-8 win on the road over West Alabama at Tartt Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Joshua Lewis (Huntsville, Ala.) led the game off reaching base on an error, followed by a single from Corey Stallings (Richton Park, Ill.) on the next at-bat. The Golden Tigers opened the scoring with one out in the inning after singles from Mark Hatch (Chicago, Ill.) and Harrison Barnes (Cincinnati, Ohio) put the first two runs on the board. They added their final two runs of the inning with a double from Richard Smith (Birmingham, Ala.) to go up 4-0 after one.

After Caleb Cobb (Hockley, Texas) singled down the right field line to put Tuskegee up 5-0, West Alabama ended the shutout scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. However, Albert Gonzalez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) doubled to bring in a run and scored on the next at bat off an RBI single in the third.

The Golden Tigers extended their lead with another pair of runs in the fifth, after a runner got on off another error, followed by a walk and a groundout to move runners to scoring position. Lewis singled to right field, driving in both Gonzalez and Smith to go up 9-2.

West Alabama continued to reduce the deficit, scoring two runs in the sixth and seventh innings, followed by a run in the eighth to pull within a run at 9-8, however the Golden Tigers held off the comeback to earn the win.

Devon Shaw (Atlanta, Ga.) earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs on just three hits along with a pair of strikeouts over five innings. Maizen Price (Charlotte, N.C.) and Malaki Roberts (St. Petersburg, Fla.) each threw for an inning each, both giving up a pair of runs. Meanwhile, Tyler Baker (Mobile, Ala.) earned the save, closing out the last two innings of the game.
