TUSKEEGEE, Ala. | Tuskegee women's basketball defeated Lane 71-63 at home in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game on Thursday evening inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
The Golden Tigers trailed only after the initial possession as they used a 22-9 first quarter to take control of the game – including outscoring Lane in three quarters.
Tuskegee (20-3, 14-2 SIAC) finished the game shooting 35.7 (25-for-70) percent from the field and 71.4 (20-for-28) from the free throw line. They scored 27 points off turnovers after forcing Lane into 27 miscues. The Dragons shot 37.5 (21-for-56) percent from the field, 20 (2-for-10) percent from three and 65.5 (19-for-29) percent from the charity stripe.
Thursday's win was the 20th win of the season, the second time under head coach
Trelanne Powell who also won 20 games during the 2018-19 season.
Ashiala Jackson (Merrillville, Ind.) led Tuskegee offensively with 15-point, 10 rebound double-double, while
Brittney Bolin (Trophy Club, Texas) added 13 points, six rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes of action.
JuToreyia Willis (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and
India Blakely (Troy, Ala.) also finished in double figures, with Willis adding 11 points, four assists and four steals, while Blakely registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.
Europe Brown led Lane with 18 points, meanwhile Kayla Simmons recorded a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds, followed by Ja'lyn Reese who finished with 14
points.
