Golden Tigers set sights for battle with Central State

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Coming off a win in the Morehouse Tuskegee Classic and their fourth straight on the season, Tuskegee will play host to Central State in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday at the Cramton Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be live on ESPN+.
 
With the matchup against the Marauders, the Golden Tigers will look to remain undefeated in the conference along with win their second game at the Cramton Bowl this season after defeating Allen earlier in the year.

GAME NOTES
  • Central State and Tuskegee have met on eight occasions in the all-time series, with Tuskegee losing just once in 2018. The programs met for the first time on the gridiron in 2013, where the Golden Tigers took the 21-10 win.
  • The matchup on Saturday is the second Golden Tiger home game to be played at the Cramton Bowl due to construction to Abbott Memorial Stadium. The team will return home for the Homecoming game on November 5.
  • Tuskegee is coming off a 31-14 win in the Morehouse Tuskegee Classic last weekend, led by junior Bryson Williams (Lithonia, Ga.) who finished the day 12-for-19 with 196 yards and a touchdown through the air, while adding 11 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
  • The Golden Tigers currently lead the SIAC West Division at 3-0, followed by Kentucky State and Lane who are both 2-1, along with Miles and Central State at 1-2 respectively in conference play. 
  • Earlier this year, senior Taurean Taylor (Scottdale, Ga.) surpassed the 1,000-yard career rushing mark as a Golden Tiger. The running back is currently at 1,276 yards, with a career mark of 6.1 yards per carry and nine touchdowns. Taylor ran for 209 yards as a true freshman, followed by a breakout sophomore campaign with 669 yards and six scores. In 2022, he is currently the team's leading rushing with 430 yards on the ground and a pair of scores in four games.
  • Defensive backs Dynte Brown (New Orleans, La.) and Antonio Kennon Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.) have proven to be two of the nation's best in the secondary this season for Golden Tigers. Kennon Jr. currently sits at 36th in Division II and second in the conference at 1.3 passes per contest, while Brown is ranked 80th in the country and third in the SIAC with 1.0 passes defended per game.
  • Tuskegee has climbed in the BOXTOROW HBCU Division II Coaches Poll for consecutive weeks, this time being ranked No. 8 with 53 total votes, just ahead of West Virginia State with 47.
