For the first time since 2011, Tuskegee women's basketball is ranked No. 19 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The Golden Tigers checked in at No. 19 in the WBCA Coaches Poll released Monday afternoon. They received 143 points, the points are based on 25 points for first place through one point for 25th, first-place votes received, and rankings in last week's poll, sandwiched between No. 18 Glenville State (10-2) and No. 20 Gannon (11-1).

Tuskegee moved up from No. 22 on the poll after a 12-1 record gave the ladies enough votes to move up the board.

The Golden Tigers began the season 9-0, which is the best start in program history. They played a four game series against Benedict College which resulted in a 3-1 record to put them at their 12-1 record.

"We are proud of the way they are playing. The coaches have done a wonderful job of keeping the ladies disciplined and doing what they are supposed to do and it's paying off," said Coach Slater.

The Golden Tigers women's basketball program has risen considerably in the past three seasons under Trelaine Powell. Since the 3rd year coach took over in 2018, Powell is 49-22.

Currently, Tuskegee is ranked No. 19 in the WBCA Coaches Poll ranking, a metric the NCAA uses to help pick teams for the NCAA Tournament. The WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll Committee is composed of one head coach from each of the 23 NCAA Division II conferences.

The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball selection show will be Sunday March 7th at 9 p.m.
