Golden Tigers Cruise past Savannah State in SIAC Tournament

Rock Hill, S.C. - Ashiala Jackson earned her seventh double-double of the season, aiding in Tuskegee University's (16-13, 10-8 SIAC) 68-41 victory against Savannah State University (15-8, 10-7 SIAC) . 

In the second round of the 2020 SIAC Tournament, three Golden Tigers finished in double figures. Normesha Pitts led all scorers with 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. 

 The Golden Tigers jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first quarter. The Savannah State Tigers quickly went on an 8-2 run to get within one point of Tuskegee 13-12. A lay up from Savannah State's Amari Heard tied up the score to even up the ball game 14-14. 

The second quarter started with Savannah State taking a two point lead 15-14. India Blakely retaliated with a three pointer to give Tuskegee the lead 17-15. Blakely finished with 15 points, four steals, and three assists. 

The Golden Tigers outscored the Savannah State Tigers 20-9 in the second quarter, with Blakely scoring 12. Tuskegee took a 34-23 point lead into halftime.

Jackson helped push Tuskegee's lead to 15 at the start of the third quarter to bring Tuskegee's lead to 40-25. Tuskegee finished the third quarter with a 20 point lead. 

Savannah State was able to trim Tuskegee's lead to 18 at the beginning of the fourth quarter but was held to only seven points in the remainder of the game, being outscored 14-7.

Tuskegee will move up in the brackets to play Miles College (20-7, 14-4 SIAC) on  Friday, March 6th.
