Frankfort, Ky. – The Tuskegee University Men's Basketball team (14-7, 11-3 SIAC) defeated the Kentucky State Thoroughbreds (8-13, 5-9 SIAC) 86-80 in SIAC action at William Exum Center in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Senior Myles Thomas led the game with a career high 26 points and three rebounds, shooting 50 (7-for-14) percent from the floor and 100% (3-for-3) beyond the arc.
Tuskegee got off to a slow start in the first half as the Golden Tigers found themselves down ten with 11:13 remaining in the first half. Kentucky State found their biggest lead 7:57 after a jump shot from Kentucky State Guard Kevin Wharton-Price put the Thorobreds up 29-14.
The Golden Tigers went into halftime trailing 44-34.
In the second half, the Golden Tigers came with an 8-2 run spanning 2:19 to bring the Thorobred score within one (46-45). The Thorobreds retaliated with an 11-6 run giving Kentucky State a 57-51 lead which lasted 5:04 in the second half.
Senior James Eads had a ten point second half performance which helped the Golden Tigers acquire the lead by way of clutch free throws with 2:39 in the second half to tie the ball game 74.
Tuskegee took the lead from a three pointer by Junior Kaleb Morton to put the score at 77-74 with two minutes remaining. Tuskegee sealed the game with back to back scores by Eads 80-74 with 0:58 remaining in the game.
The second half saw five lead changes as the Thorobreds and Golden Tigers battled it out.
Eads returned to action after an injury kept him out of action for the three games. Eads finished with 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists, shooting 46 (6-for-13) percent from the floor.
Tuskegee had four Golden Tigers scoring in double digits. DeShawn Millington shot 75 (6-for-8) from the floor, scoring 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Morton scored 11 points, shooting 66.6 (4-for-6) from the floor.
Tuskegee was out-rebounded by Kentucky State University 23-34. The Golden Tigers shot 52.8 (28-of-53) percent from the floor. KSU shot 47.7 (21-of-44) percent from the floor.
Tuskegee (14-7, 11-3 SIAC) travels to Wilberforce, Ohio to square off against Central State University (11-10, 8-6 SIAC) on February 10th. Tip off is set for 7:30 pm EST
