Tuskegee Takes Down Kentucky State

TUSKEGEE,AL -  India Blakely led all scorers with 21 points in a 63-54 victory in an SIAC contest against the Kentucky State Thoroughbreds Monday night in Chappie James Arena. 

The Golden Tigers got out to an early lead against the Thoroughbreds from a three pointer by . Blakely. Tuskegee scored 13 of the first 20 points as the Thoroughbreds attempted to keep the game close. 

Ashiala Jackson scored 11 points in the first half and finished with 20 points and seven rebounds as the Golden Tigers went into halftime up 25-24.

To start the second half, Kentucky State gained their biggest lead in the contest 28-26. Despite the early second half lead for the Thoroughbreds, the Golden Tigers responded with a 12-5 run 38-33. 

Shelle Daniels contributed with five points and 12 rebounds to the lead as the Golden Tigers went into the fourth quarter up 40-37.

The fourth quarter opened with a three pointer from the top of the key by Blakely. The Golden Tigers added to the lead from a layup by Jackson 45-37.

Kentucky State battled to cut Tuskegee's lead as a jumper from Kentucky State guard Allenia Ponder brought the Tuskegee's lead to 54-52 with 2:21 remaining. 

A layup from Kentucky State's Victoria Blankenship tied the contest at 54 with 46 seconds remaining. India Blakely scored a clutch layup with 41 seconds remaining to give the Golden Tigers the lead.

Kentucky State had two players score double figures. Carnethia Brown with 18 points and Deja Antoine with 11 points. Kentucky State shot 38.2 (21-54) from the floor, while the Golden Tigers shot 36.2 (21-58) from the floor. 

The Golden Tigers move to 13-8 (9-3 SIAC) with this victory. Tuskegee is now on a six game winning streak, boasting a 9-2 record at home. 

Tuskegee returns to action Saturday, February 8th as they travel to Frankfort Kentucky to play Kentucky State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 pm CST.
