Tuskegee, AL. – Four Golden Tigers finished in double figures on Monday night at Chappie James Arena to defeat LeMoyne Owen College in a thriller 78-73.
LeMoyne-Owen went on a 9-0 run to start the first half. After a timeout by Tuskegee, The Golden Tigers followed up with an 13-0 run which lasted four minutes and 21 seconds to even up the score at 20 with 9:26 in the first half.
While the Golden Tigers made a comeback effort in the first half, it remained a back and forth half game for most of the first half. However, the Magicians had an eight point advantage going into the second half.
The second half began with the Golden Tigers trailing by eight points 44-36. Despite the deficit, the Golden Tigers found themselves battling back to stay in the game.
Late in the second half the Golden Tigers trimmed the lead to two points after guard DeShawn Millington split a pair of free throws 65-63.
In the closing moments, the Golden Tigers capitalized after a missed jump shot by LeMoyne-Owen by Torreious Carwell. James Eads navigated his way into the lane and was fouled to earn a pair at the charity stripe. After knocking down both free throws he tied the game at 73.
With just a little under 35 seconds to go in the game, Myles Thomas drilled a three to put the Golden Tigers up by three points. Following his three pointer, Eads closed the game out with a pair of free throws to seal the game on Monday night.
Myles Thomas led the way in scoring with 21 points, Eads 20 points and 13 points for both Kaleb Morton and Millington. The quad had a hot offensive night shooting 20-of-43 (46%) combined from the field.
The Golden Tigers move to 11-6 (8-2 SIAC) following this win. Tuskegee travels to Jackson, Tennessee to play conference opponent Lane College. Lane College has a 7-10 (3-6 SIAC) record. Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m. CST.
