The Tuskegee University women's basketball team and second-year head coach
Trelanne Powell announced the addition of junior college transfer, Sharai Lay to the Golden Tigers roster for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
"We are very excited to add Sharai to our family. She plays with really a high motor, is explosive, can shoot the ball and does a really good job of getting to the rim," said Powell. "Sharai is a great teammate and has very good basketball instincts. She will bring immediate athleticism and toughness to our roster. We can't wait to have her in a Tuskegee uniform this coming season."
Lay will join TU after playing the past two seasons at Georgia Highlands College where she averaged 10 points per game and 11 rebounds per outing. Six times this season, she scored in double figures including a 19-point performance against Arkansas Baptist College. Lay played and started in all 30 of the team's game last season while averaging three assists and two steals per contest.
The 5'10 guard from Snellville, Ga. will add to previous signees in forwards Tamia Willingham-King and Rachel Obedin, who signed National Letters of Intent last month.
Last season Tuskegee produced the school's best record in 19 years, finishing with a 20-6 overall mark, the program's first 20-win season since 2000. TU finished one game shy of playing for the 2019 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) championship game and ended the year with a 13-3 league record along with a Western Division title.
