The Tuskegee University baseball team avoided a complete sweep and saved Senior Day with a 5-2 win over Clark Atlanta Saturday afternoon at Paterson Field in Montgomery, Ala. The win snapped a nine-game losing streak
CAU got on the board first when Hunter Hudson's wild pitch allowed one run to score, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead. In the third inning, TU started to roll. Caleb Nelson drew a walk, scoring one run and Elgin Woodside singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, which gave the Golden Tigers a 3-1 lead.
Hudson picked on the win for Skegee. He went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out five. Victor Brown was credited with the loss for Clark. He lasted three and a third innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out two. Jordan Johnson threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Woodside, Dominic Johnson, Cameron Hollins, and Emperor Williams each collected one hit to lead TU . Demoni Brantley went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead CAU in hits.
In game one, nothing came easy for the Golden Tigers as the Panthers took advantage of an early lead in the second inning and never looked back.
In the fourth inning, Calvin Butler doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, Ayrton Gijsbertha drew a walk, scoring one run, Darien Brown's wild pitch allowed one run to score for the Panthers, and Joshua Oliver singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Cedeon Langguth got the start for Clark and went seven innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out four. Brown toed the rubber for TU. He went on to allow six hits and seven runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Keldric Burton and Emperor Williams also entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and a third innings and one inning respectively.
Caleb Nelson led the Golden Tigers with three hits in four at bats.
Clark collected 13 hits on the day. Oliver, Butler, Howell, Gijsbertha, and Demoni Brantley all managed multiple hits for the Panthers.
Tuskegee ends the regular season with a 12-28 overall mark and a 7-15 conference record. They will now await their fate for the upcoming SIAC Baseball Tournament next week in Albany, Ga,
