Golden Tigers fall in season opener

The Tuskegee University baseball team gave up three home runs in the first three innings, which led to a 10-1 season opening defeat against Montevallo Wednesday afternoon at Montgomery's Paterson Field. The single game leaves TU with a quick turnaround before heading to Boca Raton, Fla for a three-game set with Lynn University on Friday.

Montevallo took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when seniors Khari Anderson and Jason Cryar hit back-to-back home runs. Cryars' solo home run was his first of the season. In the top of the second inning, Cryar hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot to left center field, scoring Anderson, to lead 4-0. Later in the inning, Montevallo plated another run to lead 5-0 when junior John Benevolent hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring senior Tyler Krabbe. The Falcons added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning when junior Sebastian Samuels singled, scoring senior John Michael Reed. Later, freshman Ben Teel singled, scoring Anderson and Krabbe scored after Benevolent was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, to lead 8-0.

Tayari Albright would help get Skegee on the board in the 8th inning when he grounded out to third, scoring Joshua Lewis scored.

Friday's three game series with Lynn University starts with a double header on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and a single match on Saturday.  All games can be seen live
