Tuskegee's Reginald Wiggins and
Emory Willis scored on a dropped pop fly by the first baseman of Morehouse in the bottom of the seventh inning to come away with 7-6 come from behind win over the Maroon Tigers Saturday afternoon at Paterson Field. The victory gave TU its first of the season in the non-conference double-header.
MHC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning before
Caleb Cobb singled up the middle to score Lewis,
Corey Stallings and Willis, which gave the Golden Tigers a 3-2 lead.
The Golden Tigers trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the seven inning when
Joshua Lewis reached on a dropped fly by the first baseman, which allowed a pair of TU runs to score for the game winner.
Willis had a perfect day at the plate for TU going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Lewis, Stallings and Woodside all notched one hit each.
Christian Marshall picked up the win on the mound for the Golden Tigers, pitching the entire game and striking out three batters. He allowed allowed six runs on 11 hits and improved to 1-1 on the season.
In game two, the Maroon Tigers started things out similar to game one, but this time leading 2-0 after four innings. The Golden Tigers would storm back to tie things up in the bottom of the fourth when
Ryan Green's single score
Ryan Martin and
Tayari Albright, mkaing the score 2-2. Both teams battled in extra innings when Derrick Odum went yard to left center to break open a 3-3 tie and give the Maroon Tigers a 4-3 lead, which is how the game would end.
A
Caleb Cobb single to right field drove in Martin once again in the sixth inning to give the Golden Tigers its first lead of the game at 3-2. TU got two hits from R. Green and one hit each from Steele and Cobb in the second game that featured a seven inning contest.
Nytorious Cooler pitched 5.1 innings and allowed only two runs on three hits. He also struckout four batters.
Savontae Williams picked of the loss, playing the last 2.2 inning of the game and allowed a pair of runs on three hits
The two teams will face each other in a rubber match that starts at 12:00 p.m. Sunday.
