The Tuskegee University Softball team was swept at the university of Montevallo Wednesday evening at Orr Field. The pair of losses dropped the Golden Tigers to a 2-10 record overall.
The Falcons plated three runs in the bottom of first inning. First, junior
Brianna Stella scored on an RBI single by junior
Haley Barnette. Junior
Mariel Bertossi then scored on a wild pitch and junior
Holly LaForce singled to right field, scoring Barnette to lead 3-0. TU gave up six more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Bertossi homered to left field for her first home run of the season. Later, LaFocre tripled to right center scoring sophomore
Carlee Mullinax and Barnette. Senior
Lady Sarah Federico drove in Lafroce on an RBI double to right field. Senior
Kirbi Tuck singled to left field, driving in freshman
Caroline Pope. The Falcons plated their final run of the inning to lead 9-0 after Senior
Marisa Sosa scored on a wild pitch. A Mullinax homerun to left field in the bottom of the 4th extending Montevallo's lead to 10-0 which ended the game.
Three Golden Tigers (
Jayme Marbury,
Destiny Buckhanan and
Sierra Smith all earned hits.
Kyah Dumas picked up the loss. She also struck out two batters.
In the bottom of the second inning, freshman
Georgia Hughes scored junior
Holly LaForce on an RBI single. Later in the inning, Senior
Kendra Buckley hit an inside-the-park home run, scoring Hughes and Junior
Annie Adamos, to lead 4-0. The Falcons plated two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Buckley singled up the middle, scoring Hughes. Barnette then reached on a fielders choice, scoring Buckley, to lead 6-0. Buckley would eventulayy hit a two-run home run over the left field wall, in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Hughes, to end the game on the run rule with Montevallo up 8-0.
Jessica Boyd pitched a complete game for her first win of the season, allowing just three hits and striking out five batters.
Jasmyne Lawrence, Marbury and Smith all nothced hits with
Jamea Lyons picking up the loss on the mound. She now falls to 2-4 on the season.
The Golden Tigers will play their home opener Feb. 26 when the host Division I opponent Alabama A&M out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. First pitch is set for the double header is set for 12:00 p.m.
