The Tuskegee University men's and women's cross country teams both came in second place Saturday morning at the 2018 Willie Laster Cross Country Invitational in Albany, Ga. It would be the highest finish so far this season for both teams.
Kayla Howard paced the women's team with a fifth place finish and a time of 21:50.47 and an average time of 7:01.8.
Matoaka Wilson was on her heels, crossing the line ninth and a time of 23:50.49.
Angelique Johnson and
Johanna Key both finished inside the top 15 with 11th and 12th place finishes respectively.
On the men's side,
Jelani White crossed the finish line first with a time of 31:50.84. Joshua Gaston came in 12th overall clocking in at 32:51.30. Following directly behind him was Harry Tamuoeneffa and his time of 32:57.44.
Chism Ayinda and
Brandon Crockett both gave TU top 20 finishes on the day.
Morehouse College won the invite on the men's side while Albany State brought home the crown for the women. Other teams that competed included, Georgia Military, Fort Valley State and Wesleyan (Ga.).
Both teams will have next week off before running the the UAB invite on Friday Oct. 12 in Birmingham, Ala.
