COLUMBIA, S.C. –
David White Jr. hit a two-run homerun in the sixth inning to break open a 2-2 tie for Benedict College and Tuskegee fell in game one of their conference opener a 5-2 victory Saturday afternoon.
Armando Valentin led off the sixth inning with a double to right field. White followed with a towering shot over the left-center field fence, his fourth homer of the season.
Javier Santiago later drove in
Joseph Macaluso to make it 5-2.
Tuskegee falls to 4-14 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC while Benedict improves to 7-6 and 1-0 in league play. The contest started with the Golden Tigers allowing BC to open with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Bradon O'Connor walked, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, and came home on a groundout by Valentin.
TU would respond by scoring two runs in the third inning when
Tayari Albright singled to left field driving in
Ronald McGhee and
Dominic Johnson. Benedict tied the game in the bottom of the third when
Michael Garner singled and later scored on a Tuskegee error.
Jacob Lagos picked up the win on the mound to improve to 3-0. He went seven innings and scattered six hits, walked two and struck out six.
Ricardo Pagan pitched the final two innings for his first save of the season.
Tuskegee will wrap up their conference series with a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
