Golden Tigers pound in 17 runs at Selma University

Keldric Burton showed timely hitting on Tuesday, driving in five runners on three hits to lead the Golden Tigers past Selma University 17-13 on Tuesday afternoon in Selma (Ala.). Burton drove in runs on a double in the first, a triple in the second, and a single in the fourth.

Selma University scored seven runs in the fourth inning, but Tuskegee still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Selma University came thanks to singles by Undray Lawrence, Brian Davison, and Brandon Woodland, a triple by Joe Downer III, and by Trey Clark.

Tuskegee got on the board in the first inning when Burton doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. The Golden Tigers put up five runs in the fourth inning. Tuskegee batters contributing to the big inning included Burton, Ronald McGhee, and Gabriel Selochan, who each had RBIs in the inning. Nytorious Cooler led things off on the hill for Tuskegee.  He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing ten hits and eight runs while striking out one.

Clark started the game for Selma University. He went two and a third innings, allowing ten runs on seven hits and striking out three. DJ Stiles threw four and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. The Golden Tigers had 14 hits in the game. Burton, Selochan, and Lajerrius Haralson each had multiple hits for Tuskegee.  Burton went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Tuskegee in hits.

Cooler (1-2) was credited with the win and Jordyn Thomas was able to seal the save in the win on Tuesday.

The Golden Tigers will be back in action on Saturday when they host Paine College in an opening home series at Paterson Field (Montgomery, AL). Saturday's single game gets underway at 5 p.m. with a double-header set for 12 p.m. on Sunday.
