The Tuskegee University women's basketball team trailed by as many 24 in the third quarter and narrowed the deficit down to five points, but the their rally fell short against rival Miles College Saturday afternoon from Chappie James Arena 62-57. This was the second game for the two rivals in as many days.
Lena Yoonis came off the bench to lead Tuskegee (5-17, 4-10) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ashaiala Jackson was the only other TU player to score in double figures with 11 points and seven boards.
Taylor Miller and
Kierra Hall chipped in seven and six points respectively.
The Golden Tigers struggled from the three point range connecting on only 5-of-18 from beyond the arc. They finished the game shooting 35.2 percent from the field.
TU outscored its opponent in three of the four periods but the Golden Tigers could not overcome 20-4 advantage after the first period. The Golden Tigers held Miles scoreless for the last 4:39 seconds of the game and also outscored the Golden Bears in the paint 24-12.
Tuskegee will host Paine College Tuesday, Feb. 13 in a makeup game from New Years Day. Tip off is set for 4:30 p.m.
